Auto Repair Checklist – Things You Need to Do Before You Fix Your Car

Auto repair is usually something that doesn’t need a lot of thought before getting into. It’s just something that needs to be done. Unfortunately, most repairs don’t get fixed in this manner.

The average person who purchases automobiles for their vehicles and then uses it for their daily life is not someone who does regular maintenance on the automobile they are using on a daily basis. They may take the vehicle to the dealership every once in a while, but that is all.

Even if you do check your oil and replace your brake fluid on occasion, you probably wouldn’t have to think about doing some of the more basic repairs that you could do yourself. This is something that you should be thinking about today.

One of the first things that you should do when you go to make a claim with your typical auto repair is to ask for the reason the damage happened. If it was because of something that happened out of your car’s control, you need to know the exact cause. If it was because of wear and tear, then you should be able to repair it.

You should also be able to get hold of the dealer’s paperwork. Some repairs are covered by the warranty but you will need to know what you are in fact covered for. Ask the dealer to give you a written estimate on the cost of the repair before you sign off on the check and pay for it.

Most of the most common problems are easy to fix on your own. They just require a few tools and some elbow grease.

To get a flat tire, the first thing you need to do is get your jack under the car and pull it up off the ground. Using a jack can help avoid getting the tire on the ground and possibly having to take the car to be fixed. It is easier to use a jack and get out of the spare tire instead of going to get the spare and paying for the tire.

Look for loose connections in the tires and the tubes and inspect them. If the tires are bad then you need to change them right away. If the tube isn’t dirty, you need to clean it out. If the tubes are dirty, you need to get rid of the dirt and scrub them out.

Look at the air pressure level of the tires and find out what is causing it to below. You will need to get it to the correct pressure so you can replace it. Also, make sure that you check the level of the car battery so that it doesn’t blow.

Check your electric booster pump. If the motor keeps working, then you need to change it. The booster pump is what gets you back up to speed when you need to get to the next gear.

Do a wheel alignment. This may seem like a pain, but it is a very important part of making sure that the wheel on your car is aligned correctly. It will not work properly if it is not in the proper place.

Lastly, inspect the parts of your car that seem to be in good shape. Sometimes, it is just easier to go ahead and repair these things rather than going to a shop to get them fixed.
